South African drumstep heavyweight Grimehouse will be bringing his unique, crowd-pleasing sound to Rocking the Daisies this year. We had the opportunity to speak to him ahead of the festival.

You’ll be playing at Rocking the Daisies this October – what are your expectations for the festival?

It’s every artist in SA’s dream to play Daisies. I expect the biggest sound system, most sophisticated lighting, highly professional staff and the rowdiest crowd of the year!

What can fans expect from your Daisies set?

Bring a neckbrace.

Are there any acts at the festival that you’re particularly excited to see?

Early in August you released your first dubstep track since 2016. How was the track received?

The guys on my social media pages are so supportive towards me, it’s hard to keep making music that isn’t the “cool” thing right now so every piece of encouragement I get makes me so happy. I’m so glad guys are liking the song and I’ve had so many requests from people to drop the track at Daisies.

You also released a video explaining your music-making process. How did fans react to this?

A lot of my supporters are also producing music themselves, and I get so many questions about producing from them all, and I try my best to help everyone out, but I figured the best way to help is to show everyone how I make my songs exactly, what I use, what my thought process was, etc. I haven’t had complaints about the video yet so I hope it’s helped some people.

You’ve had a very busy performance schedule so far this year. Which events have been some of your most memorable of 2017?

I don’t think people understand how grateful I am to be a part of this industry. I love playing and I play each gig like it’s my last, every single gig to me, whether it’s in front of 10 people or 10 000 people, [it] all means as much to me, I can’t choose one, I choose them all!
