Five minutes with DSCO CAM

Provided.

Eclectic DJ DSCO CAM will be showing his skills on the decks at Grietfest on 26 August 2017. We had a quick catch-up to chat about his expectations for the event.

Tell us about your career as DJ and how got into the scene.

It all started last year when my friends who ran King of The Communes asked me to be their resident DJ for all the house parties and events they hosted. From there I got the chance to represent the King Of the Communes Brand at Mieliepop Festival, playing at the Cool in the Pool stage. I got a lot of exposure there and doors have been opening for me ever since.

How would you describe your sound?

I would call it “old meets new”. A sort of twisted disco type sound.

What makes your sound stand out from other similar artists in South Africa?

Personally I think my sound stands out from other artists because I take a lot of inspiration from Disco music which was around way before me or any other artist of similar age. The synth, the lazerbeams, the new wave, its all spices in the meal I cook when preparing a set.

What are you expecting from your upcoming set at Grietfest 2017?

I’m expecting a crowd with an ear for good, different music. A crowd that is very receptive to anything I play during my set.

What are you most looking forward to from the event?

I’m looking forward to the Sunset in between all those containers, its my favourite time of the event. Its absolute vibes.

What can festivalgoers expect from your Grietfest performance?

High Energy, sonically stimulating music. Music that will really get you in the mood to dance.

Who is your favourite act on the Grietfest 2017 line up?

Jakobsnake.
