Ahead of this year’s Mieliepop festival, we had a quick chat with Go Barefoot, one of the many excellent acts on this year’s line-up. Read on to see how you can win tickets to the event!
This March, you’ll be performing at Mieliepop 2018. What can festivalgoers expect from your set?
Expect fresh new tunes and high energy levels. We are working on some new ideas for live performances, wanting to bring back more improvised and instrumental tracks.
Do you have any personal expectations for the festival?
We plan to soak up the last of summer, have a party and support fantastic music.
Are there any acts you’re excited to see at Mieliepop?
We are keen to check out [Van] Pletzen, Radio 123, Femi Koya, Trancemicsoul, Luma, Leeu – Power!
2017 was a busy year for the band, performance-wise. Were there any events, festivals or venues that stood out?
Our Sofar Sounds set at 27 Boxes in Melville was super rad and our Oppikoppi set was a huge highlight for us.
Last year, you also signed to Sony/ATV Music Publishing. How did you experience this milestone?
Signing a publishing deal with Sony ATV is a huge help in a niche industry that often lacks certain infrastructures.
Rowlin, who runs Sony ATV JHB made contact with us, and we began meeting up and shows and hanging out, till eventually we were all happy with an agreement, and boom signed contract, and a classic night of celebrations with Rowlin, who is a proper legend. A publishing deal isn’t as scary as a record deal, and it will help us grow and allow us to profit a little more from our music.
What can we look forward to from Go Barefoot in 2018?
We’ll definitely be releasing some new tunes this year, and throwing down some rad parties, just keep an eye out (don’t lose it though).
